Susan Flanigan

Unlike her collegue, Michael Gyurica, Susan took a very different path to her calling. Susan went the more traditional route with her life: she graduated from Notre Dame University with a BA in Accounting and she spent the first 19 years of her career in the business arena (national and regional accounting firms as well as private companies). Although she loved the challenges and the people she met and worked with, something was missing.

In 1997, Susan realized that the "business world" was not her passion or calling and for the next 10 years Susan immersed herself in the world of animal rescue. Over the years Susan saved hundreds of dogs, puppies, cats and kittens — her specialty was bottle feeding puppies. It was during this time, that Susan learned the true nature of unconditional love — from all the courageous and loving animals she worked with. However, all of this took a toll, and ultimately Susan turned to yoga and meditation to help her cope with all the sadness and pain associated with animal rescue. Gradually, Susan realized it was time was to make another change — and she immersed herself in the "alternative" therapies and the spiritual path. Finally, Susan felt that she had come "home" — she realized that her whole life had been a series of lessons all pointed at her arriving at this place and time.

Susan has a long list of credentials (Reiki Master Teacher, Huna Master, Certified Reflexologist, Certified Soma Pi Practitioner and the list goes on), but her true credentials are the love, compassion and kindness that permeates all she does. It was these qualities that lead her to be a mentor for so many of the younger, less experienced co-workers in the business field; it was these qualities that pushed her to try to save “just one more” puppy or kitten even when her heart was breaking; and it is these qualities that she brings to The Heart Center, where she works with a variety of people from all different walks of life. And she is especially called to help those suffering from chronic illnesses and conditions, as exemplified by her work with the cancer patients at Cancer Services in Winston-Salem.

Susan is available for energywork sessions in a number of modalities and she also teaches a variety of classes and workshops.

Michael Gyurica

Michael, like most of us, knows that his entire life has prepared him for this time. As a young boy learning to hunt and fish with his father, grandfather, uncles and brothers, he was taught the connection of all things and to be a steward of all things found in nature. In this way he developed a reverence for all life that would form a foundation for what was to come.

In 1974 Michael began studying the “old ways” in New Mexico. The mountains and high desert of the southwest provided the classroom as he sought the visions and connection with Spirit that would guide him to his purpose.

As the Harmonic Convergence dawned the awakening of an expanded level of consciousness, Michael was studying the ways and beliefs of the Zuni Nations of New Mexico and Arizona from his home in the mystical Pacific Northwest.

While living in Oregon, Michael spent every available moment connecting with Spirit in the diverse landscape the Northwest has to offer. With each trip into the mountains, the desert or the river valleys, his spiritual connection became deeper and stronger. It was here that Michael made the conscious decision to step fully into his calling and he began his studies with a woman that some might refer to as a Shaman. At the same time he began studying the principles of Buddhism and the Buddhist form of meditation as well as the discipline of using crystals and other minerals in healing.

Following the twists and turns of life, Michael found himself living in the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. While in Colorado, he was fortunate to be taken under the wings of several Native American spiritual leaders. Each had their wisdom and traditions that had been passed down for generations to offer. Their respective prophecies all told of this time when individuals of many cultures would walk the “good red road” and be interested in the wisdom they had been stewards of. They saw a time when we would become “one tribe” again…the Rainbow Tribe. These teachers saw Michael as being one of those they had been expecting and as such shared their ways openly.

While studying the “old ways” of healing and working with energy, Michael also studied some of the more contemporary modalities. Along the way, he became certified as a Reiki Master, a Master of Crystology, and a Soma Pi practitioner. He was also a member of a test group that assisted in the development of the process known as Lightbody Activation. Additionally, Michael has incorporated color, sound and the principles of sacred geometry on his path of the healing arts.

Seeing “all that is” being of energy and energy being of light, Michael’s approach to working with light is primarily Shamanic in nature. As a result, for lack of a better term, he identifies himself as a Shamanic Lightworker.

As a Shamanic Lightworker, Michael has been called upon to work with individuals and animals as well as land and homes. This is done through private and group sessions, land and space energy clearings and by providing sacred geometric grids. In addition, Michael offers workshops on meditation, sacred geometry, sacred space and Lightbody Activation. Michael also facilitates drum circles and special events marking sacred moments in time. This is all done from the heart with a devotion to being of service.
